	RAILWAY REVENUE EARNINGS UP BY 15.76 PER CENT DURING APRIL- OCTOBER 2008

	The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April – 31st October, 2008 were Rs. 44547.52 crore compared to Rs. 38481.83 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 15.76 per cent. The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 25688.18 crore during 1st April-31st October, 2007 to Rs. 30151.97 crore during 1st April-31st October 2008, registering an increase of 17.38 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during first seven months of the financial year 2008-09 were Rs. 12575.05 crore compared to Rs. 11160.90 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.67 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 1127.55 crore during April-October 2008 compared to Rs. 1059.87 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 6.39 per cent. The total sundry earnings have gone up from Rs.572.88 crore during April-October 2007 to Rs. 692.95 crore during April-October 2008, showing an increase of 20.96 percent. The total approximate number of passengers booked during April-October 2008 was 4119.63 million compared to 3867.08 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.53 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-October 2008 was 2193.73 million and 1925.90 million compared to 2117.02 million and 1750.06 million during the same period last year, an increase of 3.62 per cent and 10.05 per cent respectively.
