Prime Minister LEADS PARLIAMENTARIAN IN PAYING Tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri

New Delhi, 02 October 2009: Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Kariya Munda and UPA Chairperson, Smt Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes at the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion of their birth anniversaries in the Central Hall of Parliament House today.

Among others who paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri were Union Ministers; Members of Parliament and former Members of Parliament.

The family members of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri also joined the dignitaries in paying tributes to both the leaders.

The portrait of the Father of the Nation was unveiled in the Central Hall on 28 August 1947 by the President of the Constituent Assembly of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, when the portrait of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri was unveiled on 2 October 1993 by the then President of India, Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma.
