LOK SABHA SPEAKER CONDOLES DEMISE OF RAJMATA GAYATRI DEVI
New Delhi, 30 July 2009: Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Meira Kumar has condoled the sad demise of Rajmata Gayatri Devi. In her condolence message, Smt. Kumar said that Smt. Gayatri Devi was a distinguished Member of Parliament and an exemplary human being who contributed purposively to the cause of national development. More notably, she championed the cause of empowerment of women and weaker sections. Women’s education was very close to her heart. Smt. Kumar conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Rajmata Gayatri Devi.

Railways make special provision for disabled persons

To permit easy access to the disabled persons, Railways have made special provisions like standard ramps, non-slippery walkways, wheelchairs, earmarked parking lots for vehicles used by disabled persons, signage etc., at ‘A-1’ and ‘A’ category Railway Stations and planned for completion such facilities at ‘B’ category stations by March 2010.
Toilets and water taps suitable for needs of the disabled passengers, ‘May I Help You’ booths etc., have also been provided at such Stations/Platforms.
Railways have also planned to provide facility of inter platform transfer and engraving on edges of platforms. Inter platform transfer facility has been planned by way of connecting all the platforms at the stations through Foot Over Bridge subway with ramps or by providing lift at each platform to connect Foot Over Bridge subway. A work for provision of 50 escalator/lifts has been sanctioned for major stations of all zonal railways.
Indian Railways also have about 1600 passenger coaches which have a separate compartment specially designed for wheel chair borne passengers. These compartments have facilities like wider entrance door, wider aisle and knee space to permit easy movement of wheel chair, toilets adapted to need of such passengers, arrangements for securing wheel chair during the journey etc.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Ministry of Railways, Shri K. H. Muniyappa in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.

ENVOYS OF THREE NATIONS PRESENT CREDENTIALS TO PRESIDENT OF INDIA

Three envoys presented their credentials to the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The envoys who presented their credentials were: - His Excellency Mr. Marian Tomasik, the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic, His Excellency Mr. Faisal Hassan Ahmed Trad, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, and His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Ghali Umar, the High Commissioner of Nigeria.
In her interaction with the envoys, the President welcomed them to India and referred to developments taking place around the globe. The President said that food security, energy security, poverty eradication and sustainable development have become priorities for many nations. To achieve these goals, collaborative efforts through multilateral cooperation and bilateral exchanges are required. The President said India seeks friendship with all nations and wishes to forge political, economic and cultural ties with them.
The credential presentation ceremony was attended by the senior members of the missions, senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and Rashtrapati Bhavan.

As per the TTD Panchangam the Solar Eclipse fall at 5.28am to 7.21am on July 22.
In view of Solar Eclipse on July 22, the Temple Doors of Lord Venkateswara, Tirumala will be closed from 9pm on July 21 to 8am on July 22. All morning sevas such as Ekantham and there will be no AAD and Sahasra Kalasabhishekam. Sarva Darshanam will be commenced from 11am on July 22. on July 21 the Ekantha Seva to the Lord will be conducted at 8.30pm.
