Navi Mumbai Airport should have been operational by 2011: Praful Patel

	The Government of India has accorded 'in-principle' approval for setting up of a Greenfield airport at Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra in the year 2007. No time frame was stipulated for completion of the project. However, in view of the growing traffic and congestion at Mumbai airport, the Navi Mumbai airport should have been operational by 2011. The project is being implemented by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO), an undertaking of the State Government of Maharashtra. As such, the Central Government has neither alloted nor released any fund for this airport. This information was given by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Praful Patel in Lok Sabha today. *** MC/M
